Utility System Construction

Cedar Rapids

The Details

Project Overview

Crane Industry Experts (CIE) was proud to support the construction of a large-scale utility system in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With critical infrastructure on the line, our NCCCO-certified Lattice Boom Crane Operator was brought in to manage lifting, excavation support, and material placement with precision and compliance.

The Solution

By leveraging a lattice boom crane with a clamshell bucket, our certified operator ensured controlled excavation and precise placement of structural components. CIE’s involvement also enabled safe personnel lifts in confined spaces and seamless coordination with multiple trades throughout the job site.

Phase 1: Excavation & Site Preparation

A deep foundation was excavated using a lattice boom crane equipped with a clamshell bucket. Our operator maintained full control and accuracy, meeting strict structural specifications.

Phase 2: Lifting & Positioning Structural Components

The crane was used to lift concrete forms, steel reinforcements, and other materials. These were positioned to assist multiple trades in building the utility framework.

Phase 3: Personnel Lifting for Precision Work

Using a certified personnel basket, the operator lifted tradespeople into the excavation area to conduct finishing and detailed structural work safely.

Phase 4: Pipe Installation & Final Lifting Operations

Large-diameter utility pipes were lowered and aligned with precision, ensuring durable and secure placement for long-term infrastructure performance.
